Principal Message

Hi CCE Community,

It has been an exciting start to the school year! I hope that your students are enjoying the start of the year as much as we are. Our students have been working hard on their beginning of the year math and reading assessments. We utilize this data to inform our small groups and target specific skills that our students might need a little help with. I cannot wait to see the growth our students make between now and the middle of the year assessments.

Over the coming weeks our district will continue their work around the Resilient Schools process. I shared the following letter with our community after the BVSD School Board meeting on Tuesday, August 25th. As a reminder the BVSD School Board will be making their final recommendations on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the meantime, I ask that we focus on all of the great learning and opportunities our students will have. We are an incredible school and we will do a great job of welcoming students and families, if the plan is approved. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Here are a few reminders that I want to make sure are on your radar.

-HUG N GO procedures. Remember, for the safety of our students, no U-turns are allowed on campus, so please use the designated crosswalks and refrain from using the driveways of our neighbors to make a 3-point turn.

-Parents and students need to dismount bikes as they enter the sidewalk that is in front of the building and near the bike racks.

-Louisville Labor Day Parade: Please join us on Monday, September 7th, more information can be found in our PTA section.

-Coal Creek Jog-A-Thon: Be on the lookout for more information from PTA. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and provides so many resources for our students.

Thank you again for trusting us with your children, it is going to be a great year at Coal Creek.

Join the Coal Creek Elementary Carpool (and biking and walking) network!

Dear Coal Creek Parents or Guardians,

Are you interested in having your children carpool, walk, bike, or ride the RTD bus to and from school with students from other families in your school? Now is the time to join your school’s secure SchoolPool network. https://mywaytogo.org/s/ccreek801w

WayToGo - SchoolPool, which is a program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), is once again providing BVSD with its own Transportation Network. Each of BVSD’s 53 sites has its own secure network. It’s free and there is no obligation to participate. Instructions on how to register for SchoolPool are listed below.

Click on your school’s link to get started: Coal Creek

Using this secure website, you can register to find and contact interested families from your school. You can register with your home address or with a nearby intersection. WayToGo’s primary goal is to increase safety by reducing traffic congestion and pollution. Your information will only be shared with other families at your school who have signed up. It will not be shared with third parties.

For more information on SchoolPool, please click on this link or email SafeRoutes@bvsd.org.

Sincerely,

After School Clubs and Classes 2026-27

We are excited to announce after school clubs that will meet once per week for 4 weeks!  Each club is centered around a different theme and will be grade level specific. Clubs will meet after school on Mondays from 2:50-3:45PM in Mr. O's or Mrs. Hunter's classroom.  These clubs are offered at no cost and are separate from Lifelong Learning opportunities.

Due to class size constraints, each club will be limited to 20-25 students.  In order to be as fair as possible, if there is more interest than space available, we will be choosing students by lottery.  We will try our best to make sure all interested students have a chance to attend one club.  Please indicate your child's top choices below.  We will reach out in the upcoming weeks to confirm if your child has a spot in a club and include a permission slip. A permission slip must be signed prior to the start of the club or your student will not be allowed to attend. All  Registration forms MUST BE TURNED IN BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th.

Please NOTE that if a class has to be canceled for any reason, a make up date will not be provided.

In addition to the clubs below, Coal Creek will be offering a Running Club in the Spring.  Look out for more information later in the year.

News from the Cafeteria

school lunch

- Both lunch and breakfast continue to be free for BVSD students for the 26-27 school year! Students are allowed one free breakfast AND lunch entree per day, along with unlimited salad bar to accompany their lunch meal. Second entrees can be purchased for $2.50.

- Meal account funds are necessary to purchase items like second entrees or a la carte items (like a side salad, milk or fruit if your student brings lunch from home and doesn't get a full entree). To add money to your student’s meal account, log in here. Putting money in your student’s account in advance eliminates the need for them to remember to bring money to school daily, and also helps keep lunch lines moving.

- If you don't have an account set up from last year for additional funds, you can create a School Cafe account here.

Supporting Your Child in the Beginning of the School Year

Returning to school can bring excitement and big feelings.  These simple tips can help your child feel ready, supported, and confident!

Build Helpful Routines

Practice a regular bedtime and wake up time.

Prepare the night before: clothes, backpacks, materials, etc.

Create a simple morning checklist (3 or 4 tasks).

Support Feelings and Communication

Listen without rushing to solve.

Let all feelings be okay.

Practice ways to ask for help, take a break, or share a concern.

Build Confidence and Resilience

Celebrate effort and progress, not just results.

Use encouraging language: "You can do hard things!"

Let them make appropriate choices -- which snack to pack, an activity to do after school, etc.

Contact your child's teacher or school counselor if you'd like help supporting your child with the beginning-of-year transition.
