Dear New Vista Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back-to-School Night! It was wonderful to see so many families in the building and to feel the energy of our community coming together. Thank you, too, for taking the time to watch our Back-to-School video. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, please do so; it is full of important information about the year ahead and will help you understand some of the routines, expectations, and opportunities that shape life at New Vista.
As we settle into the year, I continue to be inspired by our students and our faculty and am grateful for how much this place continues to teach me. Leading and learning at New Vista requires us to look in several directions at once: inwardly at our own practice, relationally at how we listen to and care for one another, and outwardly at the systems and supports that help a school work well. One of the ongoing challenges of school is finding the right balance between efficiency and relationships. We need good systems, clear communication, and shared responsibility, and we also never want those things to come at the expense of knowing our students well and making time for genuine human connection. I’m grateful to be part of a community that keeps working at both.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program: Breakfast and lunch are FREE for BVSD students this year. Students will receive breakfast, along with one entree (with unlimited salad/fruit to accompany the entree) for free each day next year. Nevertheless, it is very important that you fill out the free and reduced application for the current school year, as it affects funding for your school and access to important programs.
- Qualifying for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program has many other benefits, not just from Food Services. If qualified, you may also be eligible for waived school fees, waived or discounted ACT/SAT fees, athletic participation fees, and more.

Parking can be paid for using, cash, check, or preferred method on RevTrack.

Spots without a number are for staff only
- Students may not park in the front circle/visitor parking
- Whether drawn for a spot or not, students are expected to follow the school parking policy (please read the policy carefully - there are fines associated with violations).
- When students come in to purchase their spot, if chosen, they will need to bring a copy of their driver’s license.

College Visits at New Vista: Please encourage your students to register for college visits. For juniors and seniors, these visits are a great opportunity to connect with admissions reps- often the same people who will read their applications, and make a positive impression. Younger students can learn what colleges are looking for and start exploring their options. Girls Lead for Life: A FREE 10-week rock climbing adventure at Movement Gym in Boulder. Open to 10th and 11th grade New Vista girls and nonbinary youth. This program combines rock climbing with real-life skills to help build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Learn climbing techniques, tackle challenges together, and develop skills that can be used way beyond the climbing wall. Reach out to Diane if you are interested in having your student participate. Spots will fill quickly.
When: Mondays for 10 weeks, starting in mid-September Where: Movement Gym in Boulder Transportation: Students will be picked up at each Monday from NV and transported to the gym. Note: This program is independently organized and is not affiliated with or sponsored by NV.
Just for Seniors!
College Planning Night - Sept. 16 at 6 PM. If your student is considering college next year or in the future, please make sure they attend this event. This is our main opportunity to share important information about the college process, including the Common App, Naviance, recommendations, transcripts, essays, gap years, and more. Students really should not miss this! Parents are welcome to attend, too. RSVP HERE

- PTO: The primary purpose of New Vista Education (our PTO) is to help financially support the students, staff, and faculty in areas where funding is lacking.

PTO meets once a month, either virtually or in person, to talk about how we can create a base of support for our school, yes, financially, but also through events, activities, and as thought partners. All ideas and support are welcome!

One of our biggest funding sources of the year is coming up - CU Football Game parking, and we would love to get some volunteers to help collect money for the home games (only parents are allowed to collect funds). It only takes a few hours, and it is a huge help. Watch for information coming soon on signing up for the first game.

School Accountability Committee (SAC): This is a group that works as an advisory group for the principal. Our duties range from working on the BVSD funding priorities to tracking and supporting our local efforts here at New Vista to continue our non-traditional approach to the high school experience in Boulder. We look at assessment data, the district budget, and various other factors that contribute to how the school is functioning with a focus on continuous improvement. We will meet quarterly and, if helpful, perhaps both in person and virtually.
- Families & Educators Together (FET): This group is focused on supporting our Spanish-speaking community and essentially serves as a place for our LatinX families to engage and be connected to New Vista. We meet monthly to share information and help to ensure access and support for parent engagement.

We are looking for as many families as possible to attend! We are also hoping to find a few families that might be interested in helping to plan and do meetings and events.

BVSD is using Apptegy, an app-based messaging tool that all families can download to communicate with schools, their teachers, and the district. Before school begins, all guardians will receive a text message and email from BVSD with information on how to download and login. When you receive them, please follow these instructions to begin seeing updates from your schools and communicating directly with your teachers via the app.

BVSD Carpooling Opportunities:
Are you interested in having your children carpool, walk, bike, or ride the RTD bus to and from school with students from other families in your school? Now is the time to join your school’s secure SchoolPool network. https://mywaytogo.org/s/vista700rona
WayToGo - SchoolPool, which is a program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), is once again providing BVSD with its own Transportation Network. Each of BVSD’s 53 sites has its own secure network. It’s free and there is no obligation to participate. Instructions on how to register for SchoolPool are listed below.
