RYAN WEEKLY UPDATE: September 14, 2026

Message from the Principal

Dear Ryan Elementary Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we settle into the school year. I'm reaching out to encourage all families to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application, even if you're unsure whether you qualify.

Why this matters:

Direct support for your child – Eligible families receive assistance that can ease daily expenses.

Ryan Elementary is approaching an important milestone. Our eligibility percentage has grown steadily over the past few years, and if we reach 40% or higher by our October enrollment count, our school will qualify for Title I funding starting in the 2027-28 school year. This would bring significant additional resources, including extra academic support, materials, tutoring programs, and staff that benefit all students.

The application is confidential, quick to complete, and there's no downside to applying. Even if your circumstances have recently changed, you may now qualify.

The deadline to be counted is October 1st, so please submit your application as soon as possible if you haven't already.

Thank you for your partnership in supporting our students and school community.

It’s a great day to be a Rhino!  Go Rhinos!

Warm regards,

Stephanie Jackman

Principal

Important Updates

Free and Reduced Lunch Information

The application for the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program for the 2026-2027 school year opened Tuesday, July 21. Breakfast and lunch at BVSD continue to be free in the coming school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program. Every BVSD student is entitled to breakfast and a hot lunch entrée, which includes unlimited salad bar access each school day. Second entrees can be purchased when available with money from the student’s meal account.

IMPORTANT: Even though meals are free, we strongly encourage every possible qualifying family to apply for the Free and Reduced Price School Meal program; doing so might qualify families for additional services and reduced fees, as well as impact funding for your school. Some families qualify for the program as a Direct Certification through the state because of their existing SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid benefits. Families who qualified through Direct Cert should have already received a notification letter via email.

School Supplies at Ryan

At Ryan, we simplify school supplies!  Instead of asking families to purchase individual items, we collect a contribution for each student.  This allows teachers to buy exactly what their classrooms need.

$50 per student (K-5).  Pay through RevTrak, or in the main office with cash or check.  If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact the office, and we can connect you with our community liaison.

Donations for Learning Activity

The Ryan Library is in need of about 200 shoe boxes with lids and 200 CLEAN, small containers, cups or jars (individual yogurt, pudding, sour cream containers, etc.). These items will be used for growing plant mazes during STEAM Buddies. Please send donations with your child to the Ryan Library by Sept. 29. Thank you in advance!

Class Library Schedule

Every student attends a weekly library class. Students should return library books on the day of their library class (or sooner). Please help your child get into the routine of returning their library book each week so they may check out a new book. Thank you!

Weekly Library Schedule:

Mondays - Ms. Rachel's Preschool classes

Tuesdays - Ms. Fernandez, Ms. Rauch, Ms. Melumad, Ms. Arias, Mrs. Box

Wednesdays - Mrs. Lewandowski, Mrs. Peterson, Ms. Jessup

Download the New BVSD App: All School Updates in One Place

BVSD is using Apptegy, an app-based messaging tool that all families can download to communicate with schools, their teachers, and the district. Before school begins, all guardians will receive a text message and email from BVSD with information on how to download and login. When you receive them, please follow these instructions to begin seeing updates from your schools and communicating directly with your teachers via the app.

The app features a live feed of news and updates, the ability to receive push notifications, and 2-way communication between teachers, coaches and parents.

Ryan's Lost & Found Information

PLEASE remember to label your child's items, it helps us to get the items back to the owner and limits the amount of items we will be donating each month.

Please come and check the Lost and Found bin often, it is located in the vestibule outside of the office next to the Longmont Dairy milk cap collection bin.

Dental Services at Ryan

This school year BVSD is partnering with Clinica Family Health to provide preventative dental services at our school. Dental services may include screenings, fluoride applications, sealants, and referrals for additional care not available at schools.

All students are eligible to participate and there is no cost to families. To receive these services for your child, please fill out the consent form. No action is needed if you do not want to participate. If a paper consent form is completed, please return it to the school office.  For questions regarding this school-based dental program, please contact:

Clinica Family Health - School Based Oral Health Team: sboht@clinica.org Or BVSD Medicaid Resource Nurse

Volunteering Requirements at Ryan Elementary

Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom, bring breakfast and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well!

Click here to find out more about volunteering in the Boulder Valley School District

We ask that each individual interested in volunteering and interacting with students on a ongoing basis under line of sight supervision by BVSD staff, complete the appropriate Raptor application; ENGLISH or SPANISH.  Please note, there is a $32.00 background fee due at the time of submission. Raptor applications expire one year from approval date.

Volunteers and field trip chaperones who are not under line of sight supervision are required to complete a CBI Fingerprint Check through a third party vendor, paid by the volunteer/partner/school AND must sign a BVSD Volunteer Agreement (Spanish).  Volunteer fingerprints are valid for 5 years, at which time they will need to be renewed.
