WEEKLY UPDATE: September 8, 2026

Message from the Principal

Dear Ryan Elementary Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

A Brief Personal Update: I will be out of the office this week for a second surgery related to a Bennett fracture injury I sustained at school in March. As this affects my right dominant hand, I may need some accommodations during my recovery period. I appreciate your patience and understanding, and I look forward to being back with our Ryan community soon.

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Brooke Baker to our first grade team. She will be leading Jessica Asher's class for the remainder of the school year. First grade families have been receiving direct updates, and we wanted to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Baker as part of our school community. We are also fortunate to host many student teachers and practicum students who learn from our exceptional Ryan educators each day.

This year brings an exciting addition: a dedicated Garden to Table (GTT) educator teaching lessons at Ryan! In May 2025, Garden to Table was awarded a prestigious USDA Patrick Leahy Farm to School grant—one of only 52 selected nationwide from thousands of applications. With this award and GTT’s continued commitment to equity, Ryan now has its own Garden to Table Garden Educator, Carol Klein. You can learn more about her below.

Upcoming Opportunities to Connect:

This week: Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting on Wednesday. September 9th at 6:30 PM

Next week: Families and Educators Together (FET) meeting on Monday, September 14 at 6:00– FET is a collaborative team of educators and family members working to build a more inclusive community by honoring parent voices and strengthening trust, especially with underrepresented families

Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM: School Accountability Committee (SAC) meeting will be held.

BVSD and Ryan Elementary are committed to building strong, collaborative relationships among families, schools, and the wider community to support the success and well-being of every child. You can explore current family partnership opportunities here: Family Partnerships - Boulder Valley School District

It’s a great day to be a Rhino!  Go Rhinos!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Jackman

Principal

Meet our Garden to Table Educator, Carol Klein

Carol grew up in Virginia, where she spent her youth exploring both forests and city streets alike. An artist at heart, her joy for learning and creating led her to pursue a BFA from VCU, focusing mainly on the craft of ceramics and glassblowing. Shortly after graduating and starting a family, she began teaching ceramic classes at a local visual arts center. This was the beginning of her growing passion for education. After her and her family moved to Colorado, she began substitute teaching and volunteering with her children’s school garden. She became more involved with Garden to Table and spent a few years working as a Garden Coordinator. After some time away to pursue a deeper dive into the studies of education, Carol is excited to be back with Garden to Table to begin her new position as a Title 1 Garden Educator. When not teaching, Carol enjoys exploring on foot or on bike, getting crafty, spending time with her kids, and volunteering with a local visual arts organization.

School Supplies at Ryan

At Ryan, we simplify school supplies!  Instead of asking families to purchase individual items, we collect a contribution for each student.  This allows teachers to buy exactly what their classrooms need.

$50 per student (K-5).  Pay through RevTrak, or in the main office with cash or check.  If you need assistance with school supplies, please contact the office, and we can connect you with our community liaison.

Donations for Learning Activity

The Ryan Library is in need of about 200 shoe boxes with lids and 200 CLEAN, small containers, cups or jars (individual yogurt, pudding, sour cream containers, etc.). These items will be used for growing plant mazes during STEAM Buddies. Please send donations with your child to the Ryan Library by Sept. 29. Thank you in advance!

Dental Services at Ryan

This school year BVSD is partnering with Clinica Family Health to provide preventative dental services at our school. Dental services may include screenings, fluoride applications, sealants, and referrals for additional care not available at schools.

All students are eligible to participate and there is no cost to families. To receive these services for your child, please fill out the consent form. No action is needed if you do not want to participate. If a paper consent form is completed, please return it to the school office.  For questions regarding this school-based dental program, please contact:

Download the New BVSD App: All School Updates in One Place

BVSD is using Apptegy, an app-based messaging tool that all families can download to communicate with schools, their teachers, and the district. Before school begins, all guardians will receive a text message and email from BVSD with information on how to download and login. When you receive them, please follow these instructions to begin seeing updates from your schools and communicating directly with your teachers via the app.

The app features a live feed of news and updates, the ability to receive push notifications, and 2-way communication between teachers, coaches and parents.

Ryan's Lost & Found Information

PLEASE remember to label your child's items, it helps us to get the items back to the owner and limits the amount of items we will be donating each month.

Please come and check the Lost and Found bin often, it is located in the vestibule outside of the office next to the Longmont Dairy milk cap collection bin.

Attendance Announcements

Daily Attendance

Good attendance in elementary school helps kids build strong reading skills, make good friends, and feel confident in class. Showing up every day turns school into a fun routine and sets up long-term success.

If your child will be absent:

Please let us know online via your Parent Portal in Infinite Campus OR call Ryan’s attendance line at 720-561-7002 by 8:05 a.m. If your student is arriving late, please note that in the comments section online. Always notify the office of an absence or late arrival, not only the classroom teacher.

Attendance - Ryan Elementary School. Please include the following information in your voice message: your name, student’s name, grade & teacher, and the reason for the absence.

CDPHE’s How Sick is too Sick? guidelines (en español) on when students should stay home from school.

Free & Reduced Lunch Information

The application for the Free & Reduced Price School Meal program for the 2026-2027 school year opened Tuesday, July 21. Breakfast and lunch at BVSD continue to be free in the coming school year thanks to the Healthy School Meals for All program. Every BVSD student is entitled to breakfast and a hot lunch entrée, which includes unlimited salad bar access each school day. Second entrees can be purchased when available with money from the student’s meal account.

IMPORTANT: Even though meals are free, we strongly encourage every possible qualifying family to apply for the Free and Reduced Price School Meal program; doing so might qualify families for additional services and reduced fees, as well as impact funding for your school. Some families qualify for the program as a Direct Certification through the state because of their existing SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid benefits. Families who qualified through Direct Cert should have already received a notification letter via email.

Volunteering Requirements at Ryan Elementary

Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom, bring breakfast and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well!

Click here to find out more about volunteering in the Boulder Valley School District

We ask that each individual interested in volunteering and interacting with students on a ongoing basis under line of sight supervision by BVSD staff, complete the appropriate Raptor application; ENGLISH or SPANISH.  Please note, there is a $32.00 background fee due at the time of submission. Raptor applications expire one year from approval date.

Volunteers and field trip chaperones who are not under line of sight supervision are required to complete a CBI Fingerprint Check through a third party vendor, paid by the volunteer/partner/school AND must sign a BVSD Volunteer Agreement (Spanish).  Volunteer fingerprints are valid for 5 years, at which time they will need to be renewed.
